Linnavuori Health Insurance Fund (LHIF) acts as a workplace fund within the meaning of the Health Insurance Act (National Health Insurance id no. 32503), and acts as the local national health insurance (KELA) office for its members.

All new employees have the right to join LHIF. Application must take place within 3 months from start of employment. The membership fee is 1.6% of gross biweekly / monthly salary as stated in the rules of the health insurance fund. The fee will be deducted automatically from employee’s paycheck by the employer and paid to the fund.

Health Insurance Fund membership is voluntary

Membership in the health insurance fund brings financial security in the event of illness. The LHIF pays benefits to its members in accordance with the Health Insurance Act (reimbursement of medical expenses, sickness allowances and maternity, paternity, parental and special care benefits).

In addition, LHIF pays additional benefits in accordance with its rules as follows;

  • Physical treatment

The LHIF reimburses 85% of the physiotherapy and physiotherapeutic examination prescribed by a doctor, but no more than 15 treatments per calendar year.

Applying for compensation;

If national health insurance (KELA) reimbursement has already been deducted, submit an invoice and payment receipt to LHIF.

If the service provider has not made the KELA-deduction; submit to the health insurance fund a physiotherapy referral signed by a doctor (original), a statement signed by the physiotherapist on the given physiotherapy form, invoice and payment receipt, and a completed KELA reimbursement application.

  • Massage

The LHIF reimburses 85% of treatment provided by a trained masseur, up to a maximum of 15 treatments per calendar year.

A doctor’s referral is not required, but the masseur needs to be licensed (the right to use the professional title of masseur can be checked at https://julkiterhikki.valvira.fi/).

Applying for compensation;

Submit the invoice and payment / cash receipt to the health insurance fund. The receipt must contain the following information: Name of the masseur, business ID / registration number, name of the person being treated, dates of visits and price of the massage.

  • Other treatments

The LHIF reimburses 85% of naprapathy, chiropractic and osteopathic treatment prescribed by a doctor, as well as the treatment of a podiatrist. However, a maximum of 5 treatments per calendar year for all of the above-mentioned treatments.

  • Hospital fees and health center fees (in public health care)

Hospital outpatient fees and health center fees are reimbursed in full.

Hospital day care fees are reimbursed in full, for a maximum of 180 days due to the same illness.

Applying for compensation;

Submit the invoice and payment receipt to LHIF (free receipt printed from online banking) or you can also submit the invoice directly to the health insurance fund.

  • Prescription drugs

LHIF reimburses drugs prescribed by a doctor that are reimbursable according to the Health Insurance Act.

Annual liability is not reimbursed (50 € / year).

Applying for compensation;

LHIF has contract pharmacies where you can get compensation by presenting your national insurance card (with the LHIF register number 32503).

If you visit a pharmacy that is not one of our contracted pharmacies -> submit the original receipt, calculation and KELA reimbursement application to the health insurance fund (application sv 178).

  • Specialist fees

The LHIF reimburses the specialist’s fee, but not the fee for a doctor undergoing their specialization or specialized in general medicine in case of treatment necessary to cure a disease. Dental diseases and charges for surgery or a comparable procedure are excluded and not reimbursed.

  • Research and treatment

The LHIF reimburses laboratory examinations prescribed by a doctor and examinations in the field of pathology, as well as related sampling, when the treatment is also reimbursable according to the Health Insurance Act. The maximum amount of compensation is EUR 3,000 per calendar year per member.

The LHIF reimburses radiological examinations prescribed by a doctor when the treatment is also reimbursable according to the Health Insurance Act, but not other measures taken in connection with the examination. The maximum amount of compensation is EUR 3,000 per calendar year per member.

Office fees, e-prescription fees or base fees are not reimbursed.

Applying for compensation;

The health insurance fund has contract locations where you can get a direct refund by presenting your KELA card (with the LHIF register number 32503).

A list of contract offices may be found on the top bar under “sopimuspaikat” (list in Finnish).

If you visit a medical center without a contract -> you will pay the fee yourself and send the invoice and receipt to LHIF to receive reimbursement.

  • Eyeglasses

The LHIF reimburses EUR 400 once every two years or  EUR 800 every four years for spectacles, contact lenses and laser surgery prescribed by a doctor or optician after one year’s membership in the fund.

You can apply for compensation in several installments during the same calendar year.

The optician’s eye examination fee will only be reimbursed when purchasing spectacles.

Applying for compensation;

You can get a voucher from LHIF to buy glasses or you can deliver the original receipt for the glasses (please check that your name is on the receipt).

  • Dental care

The health insurance fund reimburses dental care 400 € / year when the membership has lasted for a year.

Reimbursement includes treatments by a municipal dentist and oral hygienist, treatments by a private dentist and oral hygienist, including non-Kela reimbursable treatments, with the exception of aesthetic treatments (eg teeth whitening).

X-ray examinations are compensated as examination costs and do not have an effect on the dental care annual maximum allowance.

Compensation for dental care may also be used to treat problems such as chewing, snoring, night and sleep apnea.

Applying for compensation;

An invoice for the dentist’s fee may be submitted to LHIF. The dental center can make a KELA deduction and the invoice is enough to claim compensation. If you have already paid the invoice, submit a payment receipt attached to the invoice.

  • Mobility and other aids

The LHIF reimburses € 150 / year for the purchase of dressings, aids, artificial members and equipment prescribed by a doctor, which cannot be obtained either permanently or temporarily free of charge. The amount is limited to one item per year.

Applying for compensation;

Deliver a doctor’s referral and a receipt for the paid aid to LHIF.
